Lotus (Tibetan: Péma)

Of the Eight Auspicious Symbols, the Lotus symbolizes purification.  During the Tibetan New Year, images of all the Eight Auspicious Symbols are prominently displayed.  In the sacred texts, Enlightened beings are commonly described as being  seated upon thrones atop “sun, moon and lotus cushions”.
